While we are beginning 2026, we must reflect how 2025 has been a brilliant year for child-centred AI research in Oxford. We could not have achieved this without the wonderful team and our wonderful collaborators from differnt parts of the world.

We are pleased to share that Dr Jun Zhao was invited to co-organise the first Early Years Innovation Challenge with Oxford Edge. In partnership with Babyzone, the hackathon brought together researchers, students, practitioners, and entrepreneurs to design practical, scalable AI solutions for the earliest stage of life — from conception to age five.

We are pleased to share that Dr Jun Zhao was invited to attend the OECD Digital Wellbeing for Children Workshop in Paris in early November. The workshop was attended by OECD delegates, representatives of key OECD working groups related to well-being measurement, and leading experts on children’s well-being, digital play, along with industrial representatives.

On July 19, Internet Matters published their latest report of Me, Myself and AI, exploring how children are using AI tools and the unique risks they may face. Dr Zhao was one of the four experts invited to provide additional inputs to inform the recommendations of the report.

On June 20, Athens hosted the second Lyceum conference, as part of the Lyceum Project. The project was set up to explore some of the key challenges outlined in the landmark white paper published by Professors John Tasioulas and Josiah Ober: Lyceum Project: AI Ethics with Aristotle.

We are very pleased to welcome three new members to the Oxford CCAI Lab. Dr Isobel Voysey and Vidminas Vizgirda are joining the UKRI CHAILD project and Boyin Yang is joining the IAA grant on Ethical AI for Children.
